Antwerp Social Side
Welcome drink
Sunday evening you will be able to enjoy a Welcome drink at ‘Grauwzusterklooster’, one of the historical buildings of the University of Antwerp, at walking distance from the conference venue and the central station. This will be the perfect occasion for registration and to get back in touch with familiar faces or start to get to know new faces in the community.
Conference Dinner
On Tuesday evening we will be having the conference dinner at Antwerp landmark, the city brewery, founded in 1833. We will have a walking dinner, sponsored by MSI, ideal for mingling and being able to talk to everyone, either during dinner or afterwards at the bar, tasting all the freshly brewed local specialties.
The brewery building also houses some other local specialty crafts, such as cheese and, not to forget…Chocolate. So you might want to visit the shops surrounding the event location to take home some souvenirs.
Other highlights of the city
Welcome to Antwerp | Visit Antwerpen
Historical town
Depending on the area of Antwerp you visit you will be able to travel through time, starting in the old historical centre. During a stroll in the old town centre you will encounter lots of beautiful old architectural highlights, the medieval fortress ‘Het Steen’, the gothic cathedral, the town hall on the main square surrounded by houses with the typical crow-stepped gables, St. Charles Borromeo Church, Sint Pauls Church with its beautiful calvary garden, Rubens museum…
MAS (Museum aan de stroom) and the surrounding area ( Eilandje)
Moving more to the North side of Antwerp, you will notice the maritime history of Antwerp, a nicely renovated area, with as most striking building the museum by the stream ( MAS), offering a panoramic view of the city from its freely accessible rooftop.
The surrounding area has lots of restaurants and bars and the popular Wolf food sharing market. Closeby you will find the Redstar line museum, telling the story of the shipping company travelling between Antwerp and New York. It is located on the authentic site of the historic shipping company and tells a universal story of hope, dreams and the quest for happiness, based on personal stories of 20th-century emigrants. Another iconic building in this area of the city is the ‘Havenhuis’, which is Dutch for “port house” . The building is a testament to the city’s rich maritime history. The building was designed to resemble the bow of a ship. It is perched atop a former fire station, visible from the central courtyard and designed by Zaha Hadid.
