Professor Edward Steers was well known and admired by many of us. He was one of the main, if not THE main, driving force behind much of the development related to GDS. He was one of the founder members of the European Working Group for Glow Discharge Spectroscopy and a very enthusiastic member until his passing in February 2018. As this web site develops we are sure to see many contributions in his memory.

In memory of Edward, EW-GDS has set up two award schemes. The first is a bursary to give financial help to young researchers to go towards the expense of travel and registration for relevant international conferences. The second is a financial award given annually to the author of the GDS related paper that our committee considers to be the best contribution to the field.
